A Note to the Families of My Students
Hi All,
My name is Reyna. I will be your child’s AVID elective and math teacher.
I believe that no one is born loving school and we only learn to enjoy learning when we feel safe, happy, and able to ask for help. It is my mission to guide your child though the year in a way that helps them develop into the person they want to be. My teaching philosophy is that students are in control of their own learning. When they are engaged they will exceed the expectations of those around them. I also believe that students should not look for their worth in a letter grade, there are no A students and there are no F students. There are only students who did or did not have their needs met during the school year. Growing up I was the top student and I was the bottom students, along the way I learned that grades are an arbitrary measure of intelligence that change from teacher to teacher. So instead of worrying about our student’s letter grades, I will do my best to provide you with real measures of what your child is learning.
Our continued collaboration will ensure that your child is best supported through this unprecedented time. I encourage you to reach out to me and I will pledge to do the same.
Wishing you, your child, and your household all the best,
Reyna M. Mata
